Overview

MathGate has no backend. There is no MathGate server, no account to create, and no analytics of any kind. Everything the app stores stays in its own private storage on your phone.

App Data We Collect

The MathGate app sends us no usage data, identifiers, crash reports or telemetry.

Website Email Updates

If you choose to sign up on this website, your email address and subscription to MathGate updates are stored in Loops, our email service provider. We use them to send occasional MathGate product news and release updates. Loops receives the request metadata needed to process and protect the signup, such as your IP address. This optional mailing list is separate from the app and from our other products' mailing lists.

You can unsubscribe using the link in any update email or request deletion by contacting us. We keep your subscription information while you are subscribed, and may retain an unsubscribe record to respect your choice. See Loops' privacy policy for information about its processing.

Data Stored on Your Device

MathGate stores the following in the app's private storage, which the operating system deletes when you uninstall the app:

- Your Math Academy username
- Your Math Academy password. On Android it is encrypted with an AES-GCM key held in the Android Keystore; on iOS it is held in the Keychain. In both cases the key never leaves the device and cannot be extracted from it.
- The Math Academy session cookies the app receives when it signs in
- Your chosen blocked apps, your daily reset time, and whether a task has already been found today

On iOS, your chosen apps are not stored as a list of apps. Screen Time hands the app opaque tokens instead, so MathGate cannot tell which apps you picked, and neither can anyone reading what it has stored.

Network Connections

The app connects to one place: www.mathacademy.com. It signs in on your behalf and reads the list of tasks you have recently completed, which is what decides whether your apps unlock. Your credentials go only to Math Academy, over HTTPS, exactly as they would if you signed in through their website. Once a completed task is found, the app makes no further requests until the next daily reset.

MathGate is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Math Academy. Your use of their service remains subject to their own terms and privacy policy.

Permissions on Android

- Accessibility Service: To notice when one of your blocked apps comes to the foreground so the blocking screen can be shown. MathGate reads only which app has appeared. It does not read screen contents, and it has no permission to retrieve window content.
- Internet: To sign in to Math Academy and read your completed tasks.
- Ignore Battery Optimisations: To ask Android not to stop the service, so blocking keeps working.

Permissions on iOS

- Screen Time: To shield the apps you chose. This is Apple's own Family Controls system. MathGate asks it to block a set of apps and to wake the app at your daily reset; it receives no information about your usage, and never learns which apps the tokens refer to.
- Background App Refresh: Optional. It lets MathGate check Math Academy occasionally so your apps can unlock without opening MathGate first. Blocking works without it.

Children's Privacy

The MathGate app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The optional website mailing list is not directed at children.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
